Nature is always sending messages. Sometimes visitations are so deliberate I've learned to pay attention. So last night at sunset as I looked out the window, I saw an animal as big as a dog with a long tail. An opossum busily wandered around in the yard, nose to the ground in search of a meal. Jackson, the golden retriever who lives in the barn, barked loudly trying to jump the fence to ward off this intruder. But the opossum paid no attention and stayed focus on the business at hand, unafraid of the dog's aggression. Obviously he had been around here many times and knew the canine was secure behind the fence. Never having seen a live opossum so close, I became curious as to the nature of such a critter. Searching the web, I learned something interesting. Opossums are beneficial to have in your yard. Not that you want to keep one for a pet. They help clean up by eating decaying fruit and berries, insects and rodents.
In Animal-Speak, I learned opossum teaches us how to use appearances. "Sometimes it is necessary to play dead. Sometimes it is necessary to put up a particular front to succeed most easily and effectively." Opossum can also show you when others are putting up false fronts and being deceptive toward you.
Enjoy your day and try to take a moment to appreciate the beauty of nature around you. Watch and see what birds, animals or insects may cross your path with a special message meant for you from your Angels.
