The Protection of Psalm 91

                                                            Psalm 91 Angel Statue

Lately, the angels have encouraged me to share more about the power of Psalm 91. Years ago during a visit, my mother unexpectedly encouraged me to memorize Psalm 91. After all I'd been reading it at the close of the Sabbath every Saturday at sundown for years as is the Jewish custom that my husband practices. The comforting words of Psalm 91 helped to set the tone for the upcoming week. It assures that we are in the company of angels, God's representatives, who have been assigned to watch, guide and protect us as we go about our daily duties. Angels can help us to avoid stumbling blocks on our path if we let them.

I guess Mom thought I should know Psalm 91 by heart after such a long time.  But her playful remark, made me think of time wasted surfing the web or just waiting in line at the store.  So I jotted down the Psalm on a 3X5 card and tucked it away in my purse.  I slowly began to memorize a few lines at a time, adding more as often as I could.  Writing down passage by passage I studied day by day.  It took a long time, months, but something amazing happened in the process.  As I closed my eyes to recite the new passage compounding it with the old, I could feel an inner strength building, something dormant within me was becoming enlivened.

Now I pray Psalm 91 daily and carry it in my heart, ready for any unsettling occasion.  I've said it during many a hurricane or other times of distress and it has yet to fail me as I find peace.
The Psalm begins: "He that dwelleth in the Secret Place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty" and later describes that protection as covering us with his feathers.  This happens when we dwell in the place of the Most High (not a physical place but a restful state of higher consciousness).  In that Secret Place of the Most High we are  free from human error because we abide under God's law of love.  To abide in that place means to live and not just drop by every now and then when things get tough.

The angels are here with  us but we must do our part to know God, and then He will know us when we abide under His wing and call out to him for help.  He will deliver us from adversity and set us on high.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Joyful blessings,

Rae Karen
