Let Nature Takes Its Course: Angel Message

Sometimes we may want to help out, but don't always know the best way. That's what happened on Sunday at dinner when I spotted this large turtle struggling in the heat by the pasture fence.

Her leathery big dark-brown shell laid like a large dusty dried-out platter baking in the sun. Her back was sprinkled with tiny sun-dried water vegetation just like nature naturally provides in the small garden tadpole pond by the garage.  Hmmm...

It didn't seem likely she'd been swimming in the garden pool. But something was up...  Her snorkel nose and webbed feet were signs that she was out of her element.

Filled with compassion for her plight, what was the best way to help?  Too cumbersome to carry down the driveway and across the lane to the reservoir pond, an angel idea suggested a garden hose spray would cool her down.  Then let nature take its course.

When I turned on the outdoor spigot, steamy hot water shot out of the hose. After waiting for the temperature to cool, I approached, gradually spraying the driveway and slowly letting rain splash down upon her hot dusty shell.  Softly I spoke encouraging words to her. That's when beautiful ancient eyes blinked at me.

Following inner advice, I went indoors and let her be.  Research revealed this is nesting season.  And, that's the only time the soft-shelled turtle comes out of the water on a mission to lay her eggs.  What a mistake if I relocated her on my own, thinking I knew what's best.

Was she here to lay her eggs? And, why did she choose such a precarious spot--near the strip of sandy grass by the driveway.  Our usual Sunday afternoon had become a time of excitement as I waited for it to unfold. Watching from the living room window, I stood ready with my camera.

Soon the sand began to swirl about her.  Kicking it up, stirring the air like a mini dust storm.   Her massive legs and feet were moving the earth. After digging a large oblong hole just her size, she settled down upon it. Slowly her whole body moved back and forth in a steady rhythm on the nest.  A beautiful glimpse of creation was this ancient symbol of Mother Earth. Her elongated neck stretched skyward as she lifted her face to bask in the golden afternoon sun. A holy moment so sacred, I humbly turned away from the window and prayed for divine order.

When I read this turtle lays four to 38 eggs that will hatch in two to three months, again, I wondered how can I help.  It would be a long vigil to protect her from the many critters that come and go.

But it seemed I needn't worry.  Nature already had it covered.  Once the mother buries her eggs, her work is finished.  And, back to the water she will return to the place where she belongs. Innately she knows that when the hatchlings arrive, they are equipped for survival on their own.

I was so thankful for the glorious lesson on letting go and letting God.

This ancient visitor is naturally associated with water--and when one appears it may indicate a spiritual renewal. (In this case, the promise of new birth.)   A time to stay flexible and adaptable--accept change and adapt easily.  When we do, we will be  more resilient, patient, and calm inside.  The slow steady movement of the soft- shelled turtle encourages us to listen to our inner voice.  Trust our natural rhythms to stay in balance, and go with the flow then you'll become more aware and can turn your problems into opportunities for growth.

When I looked out the window again, the mother turtle had gone ... as quickly as she appeared.  The large indentation in the earth where she nested held the promise of new life.

Remember you are never alone. God has given his angels charge over you. God loves you.  The best is yet to be.

Drumming a New Rhythm - Angel Message from a Woodpecker

A rare drum-roll caught my attention early this morning.  I recognized the steady beat of an enthusiastic woodpecker.  He was next door, atop the old wooden utility pole doing the woodpecker drill.  His crested red-head hammering away--a new rhythm to start the day.

When a woodpecker shows up to drum out a song for you, you may ask yourself:
Am I looking at aspects of my life rationally?
Are others not discriminating in their activities?  Am I?
Am I and others jumping into situations without thinking it out clearly?

Sometimes a woodpecker's appearance will stimulate new rhythms.  Maybe you're neglecting the physical, by being too wrapped up in mental and spiritual activities.  It could reflect a need to drum some new changes into your life.  When a woodpecker shows up, there's a firm foundation to follow your own rhythm and flight.  You now have a firm foundation to move in any direction.  Do what works for you in the manner that is best for you.   Discernment is the key.

When faced with change, it's comforting to know that we are never alone.  God has given his angels charge over us.  The best is yet to be when we listen and obey.  God is Love.

Enjoy your day with the Angels.

Love and blessings,

Rae Karen

Angels in the Forecast: Angel Message

Yesterday's rain didn't stop weather-proofed rascally squirrels from having a party.  I counted a cluster of four young squirrels and four mourning doves gleaning the lawn in search of cracked corn leftovers. They were all in harmony co-existing together.

One little bushy-tail stood out from the crowd. He had an animated, quick routine. He'd grab a golden corn kernel. Then make a run for the cherub's head to munch.  A kernel at a time--he kept it up so many times, I finally got the angel message.  Get a photo to share.

I hurried to the living room and stood on the green sofa looking out the high window to get a clearer view above the window screen.  Trying to stay in balance, I was ready if he made another landing on top of the cherub tortoise. I sent up a little prayer for help, hoping for the best on a rainy gray afternoon. My camera was focused on the angel's head ready for action.  Presto. There he was in an instant. Nibbling on his prize, with his bushy tail curled like an umbrella.

 A picture of graceful gratitude.

Squirrels represent balance.  A balance in our giving and in our receiving.  A balance in work and play.  And, like this wise, playful little fellow we can take a hint from the tortoise cherub by remembering slow and steady wins the race.  With the help of the angels, we will cross the finish line in victory.  Help is ever present.

Remember you are never alone.  God loves you.  He has given his angels charge over you.  Expect wonderful things to happen today. We have so much to be grateful for.

Love and peace,

Endurance for Today: An Angel Message

Sometimes you may come across something you didn't realize you needed until you caught sight of it.  Often it makes little sense but to your soul it calls out an angel message.  Look and see...

Last year in the midst of many challenges, a one-of-a-kind camel caught my attention in a big way at the Saturday morning market in town.   It towered above the vendor tables, standing tall in the sunlight.  I laughed at the enormous size as I hurried to get a closer look. The size of the camel was a heads-up indication of the endurance I needed while going through a stormy season on the home-front.

It represented a super-duper spiritual vitamin. The friendly vendor offered a bargain at $35.  Sold.  What a sight as Elliot and I carried the long-legged hump-back to our car and transported it home.  The camel took up residence in my den. A big reminder, a promise of endurance, as I looked up from my desk during the day.  The clock ticking away. He stood over time.  His nose,  a little scuffed, and his weathered-look strengthened his message.  He was still standing tall as time passed by.

A camel, built six-feet off the ground, is a wonderful symbol of endurance.  Sturdy, wide feet can navigate over the sifting sands to deliver merchandise, provisions from afar. Three sets of eyelids and two sets of eyelashes, shield it from sand storms, and it can close up its nose for protection. Rugged, they can travel 40 m.p.h. with up to 1,000 pounds on their backs.  Enormous energy is stored in the hump.  Can you imagine drinking 30 gallons of water in ten minutes?

My Grandma had an old rock-shaped like a camel's head. She used it to prop open her kitchen door.  When she passed on, I wanted the camel rock as a remembrance stone of her strong faith. She had been through many tragedies but never lost hope in Christ.

The camel has a glass is half-full philosophy.  Stay positive and the difficulty will pass.  Camels can travel far distances with little water, like desert ships they deliver the goods.   When a camel appears it often indicates that while the journey ahead may be difficult, we will endure and will have the "waters" necessary to be successful and share provisions with others.

   Life is like a camel:
you can make it do
      anything except back up.
                                                    - Marcelene Cox

Enjoy today, and remember you are never alone. God has given his angels charge over you.  You have an inner-strength to see you through.  A gift of endurance.

Love and peace,

Enthusiasm: An Angel Message

Enthusiasm was the angel word that came to me today. The Greeks spoke of ecstasy meaning to be "out of yourself" and enthusiasm "to be in God".   Imagine the dynamic thrust of enthusiasm that propels a 40-ton Humpback whale to breech. Launching up from ocean depths, and bursting out into the sunlight of a entire new vision, all performed in a single bounding flip of enormous enthusiasm.

Enthusiasm is a choice that we get to make. A decision.  We can be as happy and enthusiastic as we choose to be.  Sometimes it begins by consciously deciding to lift our mood. Try singing, dancing, painting, reaching out to a friend--breaking the pattern.  It's easy to get down during these trying times of global transformation.  But the angels advise us to remember the word Enthusiasm. Enthusiasm causes a stirring deep from within.  An awakening that bubble ups and takes hold of our being, lifting us up higher with gratitude and joy in action.  Enthusiasm! Enthusiasm, "to be in God". Thoughts are things...  Now is the only time. God is the only Source. Love is the only Cause.

Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

Enjoy your day with the Angels.

Paying Attention to Detail: Angel Message

Yesterday's impromptu angel message to feed the ducks turned up a no-show. Our first attempt this season.  The lake was quiet. I missed their happy splashes.  Sunlit ripples rushed like diamond fishes shimmering towards the boat-ramp where we sat watching and waiting.   The old tree had adapted even more to her life in the water, growing taller and greener branches stretching skyward. A picture of resilience.

Elliot and I took a walk down the newly paved lake road. A picture of transformation now that the two hurricanes were history.

Up ahead, I caught sight of a sunny water lily blooming on the grass by the lake. I wanted to see a lily up close not just by zooming-in over the water.  I was surprised by her uniqueness.  A strange button-shaped stamen stuck up like a microphone, broadcasting a sunny forecast.  Welcoming yellow petals like rays of the sun greeted the day. Yellow is the color of faith.  And, the water lily was resilient, now adjusting to life on land.

Further down the road, a green patch of grass glistened with random pink cotton-candy wildflowers. When I stooped low for a photo, I found a surprise.  An empty Adam's Apple snail shell.  The spiral pattern is a universal symbol.  As the snail grows, the shell naturally adapts to the proper size by wrapping a soft substance that will harden into a another layer of shell for protection.  Nature is amazing.

Our life goes round and round, in a repeating spiral...

It may seem as though the same old trials keep coming round and round in a never-ending loop.  Will we ever get it right?   The good news is... we are changing, expanding, coming up higher, yielding to our spirit.  The best is yet to be.

I got a telling sign at the end of the road when I snapped a photo of this directional arrow sign, and didn't know why.

I hadn't seen the playful pair of eyes glued to the TURN LEFT Arrowhead until Elliot pointed it out.  A warning sign for drivers to pay attention. Turn left or take a sudden swim in the lake.

Something amusing happened back at home. I almost missed the honey bee in the snail photo. Hovering over the lush pink blossom, taking advantage of an opportunity to share the nectar of life. Bee represents doing the impossible--flying. Their big bodies are too large for the tiny wings-- It seems to be aerodynamically impossible. But the speed of the wings makes all the difference.

I was thankful for the precious gift of sight.  What joy to pay attention to details... The angels are always speaking to us.  Watch and pray... The best is yet to be.

Love and peace,

Rae Karen
