Sandhill Colt Calling on Peace

What a surprise to find an unusual striking appearance this morning.  The tall young sandhill crane was quite a spectacle, standing in the mulch bed by the pink plastic flamingos.  Wanting attention, he had mine.  Bold and curious, his golden eyes stared at the front door, making his presence known.

Living most of my life in Virginia,  I never thought a bird this size would appear regularly in our yard. And, here they are, these graceful, peaceful, animated water birds.  This is the fourth generation.  What joy to watch them raise their two young...and they grow up fast.  This baby colt will soon be four-months-old, ready to spread those six foot wings and take flight with the family.  A whole new world opens up as he flies skyward.  Patience has paid off -- the parents will be able to fly again together and not have to take turns being grounded.  It's been a long waiting period but well worth the wait.

High flyers, sandhill cranes always announce their presence with loud calls and are considered to be noble guardians calling out to forewarn.

Our world needs peace now.  Peace begins with each of us and is reflected by our thoughts and actions. Going within and listening to the still inner voice throughout the day brings peace.

Einstein said, the consciousness that created the problem cannot be solved at that same level.  We must come up higher.  Years ago, I read about The Silent Minute Prayer, a historic movement in Great Britain during World War II.

Major Wellesley Tudor Pole asked people to devote 1 minute of prayer for peace each evening when Big Ben struck nine o'clock.

He said, "There is no power on earth that can withstand the united cooperation on spiritual levels of men and women of goodwill everywhere.  It is for this reason that the continued and widespread observance of the Silent Minute is of such vital importance in the interest of human welfare."

"Be still, and know that I am God. I will
be exalted among the nations, I will be
exalted in the earth."  Psalm 46:10

Love and peace,
