Our neighborhood is not far from the railroad tracks and on occasion I hear the train whistle blow from the station. It stirs up memories of visiting my grandparents in Indiana. Sleeping by an open window on a floor mattress, the lone night whistle awakened restless dreams of travel. An adventure was waiting to be had.
I LOVE to hear the whistle blow. Something funny happened the last time the train let out a toot.
Elliot and I were in the living room talking when I first heard it. I stopped talking to listen, cheering it on, Woo Woo!.
To my surprise, the whistle blew again... Louder and longer in a harmonic tone that seemed to match my childlike enthusiasm.
I'm glad Elliot is a witness. I was stretched out on the sofa when the whistle blew again. This time a loud familiar tune: "Shave and a hair cut, two bits!"
We both burst out laughing. Maybe your Mom is having fun on the other side, Elliot joked.
I was thankful for the reminder nothing great can happen without enthusiasm!
