The Donkey Duet: An Angel Message

(Katie)

The voice is a channel to express our emotions and ideas. If we really wish to know a person's feelings, we should listen to the tone of their voice as well as their words. We influence our world by our every utterance. Something amusing happened one Sunday afternoon at the Norfolk Zoo parking lot. We were waiting in the car until it was time to admit the public for free the last hour. A favorite outing, it fit nicely with our limited budget at the time.

I had a case of the Mean Reds that day. (In the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's, the mean reds are when you're out of sorts and don't really know why.) I told Elliot I just didn't feel like myself. He was lucky to be a man and not have to deal with hormone issues.  Blab blab blab.

In midstream I was suddenly silenced by a loud piercing noise from a nearby animal pen!  The timing seemed to imitate my mood, chasing away the mean reds. Laughing, we hurried to see what it was.

Our donkey friend was braying.  "Katie!" we called.  She hurried to greet us. The nylon netting had pulled away so she could easily poke her nose through the chain-link fence. We showered her with love. Then Elliot got inspired. He began singing The Donkey Serenade to her. A song he had learned in the fifth grade.

There's a song in the air
but the fair senorita doesn't seem to care
for the song in the air.
So I'll sing to the mule,
if you're sure she won't think that I am just a fool
serenading a mule...

Elliot sang, "And all that the donkey can sing..."

He stopped. "This is your part," he said, looking Katie in the eye.  "This is where you come in!" He bowed like a showman, giving her a cue, "EEE AW"

To my surprise, Katie's big nostrils flared, her ears pent back, she brayed loudly and long,  "EEE AW AW----"

The angels of laughter must have been having fun.  Music is a bridge. The Donkey Serenade brought a gathering of giggling children to hear this odd duet at the fence. But Katie didn't miss a note. She kept on singing like a star until Elliot finished the chorus with her.

Everyone agreed that something special had happened.  Katie's singing had cleared the air, restoring childlike joy in the spontaneity of the moment. And I had learned a humorous lesson on how our inner world is reflected outwardly.

In Animal-Speak, donkey represents the approach of new opportunities to do even greater work. "Don't be stubborn and refuse to move with the flow." Step forward like Katie and give it your all.

Window Reflections: An Angel Message

Several years ago  I playfully snapped a photo of our reflection while window- shopping downtown in historic Riverhead, New York.

I better understood a metaphysical concept by reflecting on that experience.

The bright light from the camera flash could only mirror light and trumped the image of my physical smiling face.

A  reflection can only mirror the exact actions of the one standing in front of it.   Smile and a smile comes back to you. Make a frown and that's what's staring you in the face.

"Love is reflected in Love" Mary Baker Eddy writes in her book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.

When you walk away from a reflection, your image does not linger behind. It was only a mirage with no power to act of itself. The real power lies not in the reflection, but in your True immortal being. The Light within goes with you wherever you are, superseding the density of your mortal body.

We are forever a Child of the Light, and that spiritual image is unchangeable, no matter what the illusion seems to be mirroring.

Enjoy your day with the Angels.

Our Lady of the Broom: An Angel Message

From time to time an unusual image would come in my morning meditations. The Blessed Mother would appear with a broom making a clean sweep.  I was doubtful as it seemed demeaning to her divinity.  Once she appeared with a broom to shoo mice out of a house. And, yet another time she was sweeping a dirt path.  I was beginning to doubt the validity of my inner guidance.

I know mice represent being myopic, unable to see the forest for the trees.  Fearful, mice look at the world through a microscope.  Maybe Our Lady with the broom was uncovering any of my hidden fears that had been swept under the carpet.  There were a few.

Before long, the sweeping images stopped and were soon forgotten.  Many months later while visiting Saint Augustine at Christmas time, what a surprise to discover a statue of Our Lady with a broom at Our Lady of LaLeche Mission gift shop.  One look at her grace, swept any lingering doubts about my own sanity.  There was a good reason I'd seen her in my meditations.

I asked the cashier about the significance of the broom. Turns out,  Our Lady of the Broom, also known as the Kitchen Madonna, brings grace to the mundane tasks of tending family and home.  Mary swept the floor of her humble home in Nazareth. The broom represents cleanliness in the home, in our thoughts and in our actions.

Thank you, Mother Mary, Queen of the Angels, for all your earthly help.

Enjoy your day with the Angels.

Geese: An Angel Message

Sometimes Nature will lend a helping hand.  I fondly recall a memory while living on a farm in Virginia Beach.  Elliot and I took a break from work and went for a drive in the countryside exploring new territory.  I brought my camera and set an intention that we were on a photo safari.  Nature would reveal the animals along the way. Although a peaceful ride by farms and open pastures, there was no sign of any wildlife. Time passed and my prospects looked dim.

Randomly turning down a long narrow country road, we hit pay dirt. Amazed by hundreds and hundreds of  large white birds that suddenly drifted out of a gray sky. They dropped like manna from heaven, blanketing a barren field as white as snow. But I had missed a perfect action shot. Watching them gather, we listened to their loud cacophony, enjoying their noisy convention from the roadside.

With a special love for geese,  I decided to slowly cross the wet field to take a photo, from a respectful distance.  The nearer I came, the louder the chatter. I stopped and sent love. Suddenly a blizzard of thunderous wings flapped upward at once stirring the air in flight. What a rush as I stood still in the field lifted upward by their dynamic momentum.

Later I learned that geese are a totem to help in communicating through the use of stories, like Mother Goose. Their feathers were also used as writing quills in the past. When geese appear, they can help us move through any creative blocks, and they did.

Geese also invite us to heed the call to the quest.

Enjoy your day with the Angels.  Pay attention to the messengers that come your way.

Angels in the Snow

Caught a snowflake
in my hand…
this lovely disappearing thing
that once had form…
and I remembered you.
--Marian Gordon

With the heavy storm blanketing the Mid-Atlantic, I'm sure there will be legions of angels created in the snow.  A gentle reminder that our actions make an impression wherever we go.  We may not always see it, but it's there.
Do a little snow dance...enjoying the moment.

But most of all, remember to share love.

Have a joyful day with the Angels.

Love and joyful blessings,

Eagle Vision: An Angel Message

Maybe because we'd recently watched the movie Field of Dreams, I found myself doing something totally illogical...just because the opportunity came at the right moment. It did seem like one of those angel nudges that was meant for me.

While shopping for a sofa, I happened to look up. This life-size bald eagle was suspended from the store ceiling. His 6-ft. wingspan waved to me from the storeroom ceiling, reminding me of Psalm 91, ...under his wings ye shall trust..."

Eagle is a bird of great vision.  And, my eyesight was in need of a major healing.    Elliot and I packed him in the car.  He now hangs by the window in my little den that overlooks the garden.

Eagle has the ability to live in the realm of spirit (higher mind) and yet remain connected and balanced within the earth realm. When we trust in God and abide in the Shadow of the Almighty, he will deliver us and set us on high.

Making Way for Miracles: An Angel Message

Releasing a lot of stuff to the neighborhood thrift store, this plaque caught my eye. "Miracles happen to those who believe."  I understood that I needed to also make room in my mind for this to happen.  We are so often a law unto ourselves declaring what is true for us, we then believe it come what may. By letting go of limiting thought patterns, the angels can rush in and help us see life in a new light.  Miracles are loving shifts in our perception as we begin to see the perfection in us as well as those around us. Love is reflected in love...

Enjoy your day with the Angels.

A Stroll Down Clara: An Angel Message

(Sandhill crane stepping out on Clara 1-18-16)

For the first time, I returned from the lake without taking one photo.  So imagine my surprise later that afternoon to find this big bird strolling by the house.  One of my favorites, a sandhill crane, I ran for my camera.  What was mine had come to me, I didn't need to go out looking for it.

The red coloring on their head indicate we are awakening to higher intuition and guardianship. Sandhill cranes were showing up over the weekend.  The Sandhill Golf Course restaurant had reopened after a long hiatus. Then at a friend's lake, a pair of those stately birds made an appearance, too far away for a good photo, but I had another chance coming right by my door.

Just in case I missed the Sunday message, early Monday morning, I heard their loud whooping call echoing through the neighborhood.  I stood on the patio in the cold morning sunshine and listened to their celebratory song.  "It is time to participate in the dance of life."

Enjoy your day with the Angels.

Ibis and A New Page: An Angel Message

(Ibis landing at the park 1-16-16)

The Ibis, a symbol for the first letter in the ancient Egyptian alphabet, has a strong association with the written word.

Yesterday the park was overflowing with these beautiful winged ones. Communication was in the air.  Later while enlarging the photos, I could see this ibis coming in for a landing. Although her wings had been tattered from past storms,  she had made it!

Landing feet first in the cool refreshing lake, her appearance (a writing symbol) brought to mind the Book of Life.  Each day a new leaf awaits our every thought and action. We get to color it however we choose. My ibis friend shown here seemed to teach a lesson: Why not make a joyful splash into the new by being fully present in each moment on the precious page.

"The past is over and all that is left is a blessing."

The Gift of Light - An Angel Message

I always find it comforting when an angel message comes into view in a deliberate yet unexpected way.  Just like this... without much thought, I had rearranged the living room furniture, positioning the floor lamp to the opposite side of the chair.

To my surprise, the next morning, a shaft of sunlight was casting an image of a star onto the lamp shade. The lamp was on at that time, but the stained glass 3-D ornament hanging in the high window by the hearth magnified the message of light.

The Monrovia star is a permanent fixture in that high window, a reminder to keep the Light of Christ shining in my heart all year. I was thankful I caught the reflection as the sun soon shifted and it faded out of sight but stayed in my mind.  God is Light.

Enjoy your day with the Angels.

Cormorants and A Wood Stork: An Angel Message

More than 18 cormorants were hanging out on a bright yellow floater at the lake today.  Usually only one or two are seen, so I wondered about the significance of their appearance.  The beautiful trumpet swan has moved on after spending seven months at the lake.  With her departure, the park lost its heart.  So maybe this large turnout was indicating have faith more activity is going on, it's just happening below the surface.

I looked up the symbolism of the cormorant: "A need to dive deeper to get to solutions.  Trust in your own methods.  You will accomplish tings now in unique ways others cannot."*

It was funny because they were out of the water.  I was so intent on taking a pic of this unusual flock, I almost missed this comical sight off to my right.

The wood stork was either airing out her wings or showing off the size of her latest catch.  Either way, stork is the bringer of new life and a wonderful omen for the new year.

Enjoy your day with the Angels.

Love and joyful blessings,

Rae Karen

A Young Hawk on a Fence: An Angel Message

Young Hawk on a fence on Stone Street 1-9-16)

Lately Elliot has an uncanny ability to notice unusual birds as we go about our business.   On Saturday while driving down Stone Street, he spotted this young hawk far off in the distance.  With no traffic, he could easily back up so I could take a photo.  Hawk has been a special messenger for me for many years.

His appearance seemed deliberate as he was not airborne but perched on a fence.  My camera lens bounced as I tried to zoom in, asking the angels for help.  When I finally located him, he had his feathery back to me.  I'm familiar with a hawk's call, but this was the first time one responded to my whistle. Curious, he turned to see me.

Whenever a  particular animal crosses our path, it helps to notice the behavior. This  young hawk was "on the fence" waiting patiently, indicating a time to be vigilant for opportunities that will present themselves "on the ground". Hawks are universally recognized as guardians and messengers.  The appearance of hawk heralds a time of greater strength and vision which will help in our present endeavors.

In Animal-Speak, Ted Andrews writes:  "The sky is the realm of the hawk.  Through its flight it communicates with humans and with great creator spirit.  It awakens our vision and inspires us to a creative life purpose."

Enjoy your day with the Angels.

A Wild Turkey: Angel Message

Yesterday on our way home, an alternate route took us through a wooded neighborhood.  This beautiful tom turkey caught our attention.  Out for a stroll, he shied away from the camera. I zoomed in not wanting to frighten him.  Turkey is a wonderful symbol of thanksgiving and abundance.

His appearance reminded me of a good new year's resolution:  "Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law." (Psalms 119)

Enjoy your day with the angels, and expect the unexpected.

Love and joyful blessings,

Angels Point the Way

                                       (Wikimedia Commons)

Angels can help us to pay attention to which way the wind is blowing in our lives.  Wind is often a symbol for the breath of God, the Holy Spirit.  And to be inspired is to be filled with creative breath.

Winds of change come and go, stirring up old stagnant patterns, they bring fresh air and inspiration, encouraging us to test out our mettle in new directions--to stretch and grow beyond our complacency.  To trust that we are more than we know.

In the new year, it's exciting to think about living life outside of the box. It just takes a little willingness.  It can be something as simple as breaking our routine in coming and going. Take a detour down a different street and gain a new perspective. Or try tapping into your creative muse.  Maybe there is something you have long wanted to attempt. Something that keeps bubbling below the surface. If so, now is the time.  Ask your Angels for help and watch the shift in you as you begin to feel more alive.

Angel thoughts are filled with spontaneity if we just allow ourselves the freedom to follow their loving direction.

Enjoy your day with the Angels.

Painted Pony: An Angel Message

My dim eyesight brightened when this paint dripping  pony pranced into my shopping cart on a quick run to the Family Dollar for cat food.  Funny how something simple, and out of the ordinary can help to shift energy.  I knew the Angels were giving me a boost. One of a kind, I named her Victory -- I loved her unbridled enthusiasm, running her race without even waiting for her colorful coat to dry.

Horse energy is all about power to move forward to reach the goal.  The Disney movie Secretariat is a true story of how a prize winning thoroughbred helped her female owner run her own race.

Enjoy your time with the Angels.

May the Force Be With You: An Angel Message

                                      Hubble photo

"May the Force be with you as you travel through each day
May the Force direct and guide you as you go along your way
May the Force be with you attached to the sky
Cause when the Force is with you it's impossible to die."

Angels messages sometimes come as pure intuition stirring up the past and linking it to the now. That's what happened to Elliot when he read a review on the latest Star Wars movie:  The Force Awakens.  The original cast (Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill) were all coming back to transition the Force teachings to a younger generation.

An angel thought nudged Elliot. Somewhere buried in his files, 37 years ago he had produced a record about The Force.  A songwriter in California he had never met, (Monte Baier) somehow got his name and wrote a letter requesting music for his lyrics MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU based on the original Star Wars movie.

The search was on.  Soon Elliot found the master music and made a CD.  Playing it in the car on our way to lunch, I found myself becoming teary eyed.  With all the transformation happening in the world today, the uplifting message touched my heart.  "Cause when the Force is with you it's impossible to die."

Enjoy Ralph Tilleli singing MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU, on youtube

"When the Force is all around us, it's the universal song."

Guarding Thoughts: A New Year's Angel Resolution

"For He will give His angels charge over thee, to guard thee in all thy ways."
                                                                       -- Psalm 91

With a fresh influx of 2016's energies, this lifeguard chair (Number 365) makes a good symbol for watching our thoughts each day during the New Year. Stand guard and get ready to blow the whistle! Currents of guilt, judgement, resentment, anger, or jealousy have a strong undertow. Love, peace, harmony, patience, and forgiveness will aid in avoiding emotional negative riptides.  Ask the angels for help to turn back and swim toward the direction of your dreams.  The angels are here to protect and guide us to become our best, and also to have fun in the process.

That old saying, Thoughts are things, is true.  What we focus on we will attract, so why not stand guard and let positive thoughts rule the day.  This bright red life guard chair is on wheels and can go wherever needed, just like our angels.

Enjoy your day with the Angels.

Love and joyful blessings,

Rae Karen

New Year's Day Sunrise - January 2016

January 1, 2016  Sunrise (Lake Dora, Taveres, FL)

The New Year's sunrise appearing between a "gateway" on Lake Dora made a perfect picture for reflecting on the beauty of a brand new beginning.

Happy New Year!
