An Industrious Ant on Psalm 91: Angel Message

Angels can get very creative when a message is needed.  Like today, what a surprise to see a tiny ant crawl across my  Bible at the start of our morning devotional.  A  heads-up.  Whenever an ant appears, patience is needed.  The little black ant must have hitched a ride on my shirt when I was watering the garden earlier.  Now those little legs scurried across Psalm 91. Before I could catch him, he disappeared inside my old Bible's loose leather binding.  A little "tunnel" had formed below the yellow ribbon page marker.  It was interesting that the little ant sought refuge there as Elliot and I read the Psalm of God's protection aloud. "For he shall give his angels charge over thee."  So as not to crush the little messenger, I carefully held the Bible at an angle to keep the tunnel formed. Elliot laughed.  He's probably the first ant to really get into The Word.

Afterwards, I tried my best to free the little fellow .  Like a trumpet, I blew on the hollow tunnel, hoping my breath would carry it out the other side.  Elliot watched, saying ants stick to things so it probably wouldn't work, as I puffed away.  I didn't want to close the Bible and crush the ant making my Bible a tomb. After all, didn't Jesus say, "Go into all the world and preach to every creature." In a quandary, I turned to the Holy Spirit for help. Just then, I happened to look down.  There it was! The little ant was clinging to my peach colored shirt! Gratefully, I folded the hem of the fabric and quickly carried the ant to the garden again.

A review of ant symbolism revealed these insects represents industriousness, order, and discipline.  "The ant is the teacher of how to build, how to become the architect of your own life.  It can show you how to construct your dreams into a reality.  Ant will show you the greatest success occurs with persistence.  Some questions to ask, when an ant appears:

Are you disciplining yourself to finish the tasks at hand? Are you or those around you looking for the quick and easy way? Are you neglecting important activities?  Are you laying a good foundation?  Are you being patient with yourself and with others? Are you making things greater and more difficult than they need be?  Ant can teach you how best to work with others for the good of everyone-- a promise of success through effort."

In Proverbs 6, we are told, "Go to the ant, thou sluggard, consider her ways and be wise." The ant messenger's timing was in divine order.  A short time later, a resolved problem with a neighbor flared up again.  An obvious set-up to practice patience and find peace.

With the most divisive U.S. presidential election coming up next week, patience is needed for our country to find peace and harmony and seek refuge in Psalm 91. United in prayer, before and after the vote.

Love and peace,

Rae Karen
