The Protection of Psalm 91

Lately, I've been guided to share more about the power and Presence of Psalm 91. Years ago during a visit, my mother encouraged me to memorize that wonderful Psalm. After all, for years I'd been reading it from the Bible to close the Sabbath every Saturday at sundown.

In the Jewish custom, the comforting words of Psalm 91 helps to set the tone for the upcoming week. It assures that we abide in the company of angels, God's representatives, who have been assigned to watch, guide and protect us as we go about our daily duties. Angels can help us to avoid stumbling blocks on our path if we let them. They will lift us up so we don't dash our foot upon a rock.

Mom thought I should know Psalm 91 by heart after years of reading it each Saturday night. Her playful remark, made me think of the time I often waste surfing the web, or just idly waiting in line at the store.  So I took it as a challenge, jotted down the Psalm on a note-card and tucked it in my purse.  I began memorizing a few lines at a time, adding more verses as often as time permitted.  Writing down passage by passage, I studied day by day building up momentum.  It took many months to commit to memory, but something amazing happened in the process.  As I closed my eyes to recite the new passage adding it to the memorized verses, I could feel a palpable inner strength within.  There truly was power in The Word.

Now I pray Psalm 91 daily and carry it in my heart, thankful for the protection and comfort it offers. I've said it during hurricanes and other times of great distress, and find such peace from the spiritual truth from the power of these affirming words.
.
The Psalm begins: "He that dwelleth in the Secret Place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty," and later describes that protection as covering us with his feathers.  This happens when we dwell in the Place of the Most High (not a physical place but a restful state of higher consciousness).  In that Secret Place of the Most High we are  free from human error because we abide under God's Law of Love.  To abide in the Place of the Most High means to live there, to remain in that consciousness, and not run to it only in times of trouble.

The angels abide with us in that high state of consciousness, when we open our hearts to know God, He will know us and deliver us from the snares of the fowler.  He will deliver us from adversity and set us on high.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Joyful blessings,

Rae Karen
