Daniel in the Lions' Den: An Angel Message

Daniel's Answer to the King, Briton Riviere (1840-1920)
I love this inspirational painting from the biblical story of Daniel in the lions' den.  The artist who specialized in painting animals has gifted us with a vision of the power of faith. At the time, 80-year old Daniel had faced a long history of obedience to God.  He knew to turn away from the severity of the hopeless human condition, and to keep his eye on God.  His absolute faith is rewarded during the long dark night of the soul.

Daniel in the Den of Lions, Francois Verdier
"My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have  not hurt me:.." (Dan. 6:22)

Not only did an angel of the Lord turn the lions into lambs, but God restored his faithful servant Daniel to his rightful position within the King's government.  His jealous rivals, who prepared Daniel for a lion's portion, ended up serving his fate by satisfying the appetite of the starving den.   A good lesson in karma, what you put out there, comes back to you.

The painting of Daniel at the window, looking outward and upward to God, paints a vivid picture that gives me strength during dark times. The next time you feel anxious about a seemingly hopeless situation, look at Daniel, and remember his story.  Against all odds, he survived a night in the den of hungry lions and was rescued by an angel. When we keep on looking to God with faith and turn away from growling fear of a situation about to swallow us up, victory will come, if we can stay focused on Him in gratitude, love and obedience.

Enjoy your day with the Angels.

Love and joyful blessings,
