The Angel of the North: An Angel Message

(Photo: Angel of the North Through the Trees)

The impressive Angel of the North, (above) stands on a hill in Gateshead, England overlooking the traffic on AI.  This 66-foot tall, 200-ton steel angel has a 177 ft. wingspan, bigger than a Boeing 757! It is the largest statue in Britain, and perhaps, the world.  One of the most viewed art forms in the world, it is seen by more than one person every second, 90,000 every day or 33 million each year.

During the night of February 14, 1998, The Angel of the North, was delivered in 25m sections by police escort.  Traveling at 10 mph, at dawn the body of the Angel was lifted into position in its new home on the hill.  Valentine's Day.

Why an angel?

"I want to make something we can live with
and that becomes a reservoir for feelings--
feelings that perhaps we hadn't known
until this thing was there, or feelings
that couldn't arise until it was."

When surfing the web, I couldn't tell how massive the Angel of the North was in stature.  But what a bold reminder.   I LOVE it!  An opened winged angel on a hill watching over our comings and goings on life's highway.  The size, like a metaphor, made me wonder, if our own belief in the reality of angels would take physical form, and grow bigger and bigger each day as we slowly embraced the truth, what would happen?  This solid conviction of their Presence would eventually leave no room for doubt and fear. Then Angel thoughts could take flight, and span our waking hours with higher inspirations of peace, love, and joy.

Enjoy your day with the Angels, and remember them often.

Love and joyful blessings,
