Uriel in Christian tradition is the Angel of Music and Poetry. Folklore says that Uriel warned Noah of the impending flood. This archangel helps us during times of disaster such as earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes.
This picture is a statue of Archangel Uriel holding a mandolin. I took it on November 16, 1998 while living in Manassas, Virginia. An inner voice prompted me to grab the Polaroid camera and get a picture in the front yard with all the fall leaves around him. 'Smile, Uriel," I kidded as I crouched down to take it. As the photo came into focus, Elliot and I watched in amazement as a pair of golden wings began to form above the statue. A brilliant shaft of light shot through the statue. Archangel Uriel whose name means Light of God came shining through! And so it is with us. The light is always there even though we can't see it with our physical eyes. It still exists.
I want to share a favorite passage on Light from A Course of Miracles.
"There is a light in you which cannot die;
whose presence is so holy that the world
is sanctified because of you.
All things that live bring gifts to you,
and offer them in gratitude and gladness at your feet.
The scent of flowers is their gift to you.
The waves bow down before you and
the trees extend their arms to shield you
from the heat,
and lay their leaves before you
on the ground that you may walk in softness,
while the wind sinks to a whisper round
your holy head.
The light in you is what the universe longs to behold.
All living things are still before you,
for they recognize Who walks with you.
The light you carry is their own.
And thus they see in you
If you are struggling in the dark, call on Archangel Uriel to help you remember the Light of God shines bright in you.
